5 UK natural hair salons to visit in 2018_01

UK Natural Hair Salons

Ever walked into the local high street hairdressers and enquired about their services, only to be met with looks of fear and discomfort when they lay their eyes upon your locks?

Yep, this sounds familiar, I’ll bet. Well, I no longer make this mistake because whilst I continue to rock a round and proud afro I choose to invest my money not at the local Toni & Guy but at establishments that are devoted to nurturing our curls. So here it is, from me to you, a list of my favourite afro hair salons in the UK where you are sure to be welcomed and well looked after!

Zuizo

We all have that one place that we trust wholeheartedly enough to give us a standard trim without taking off more than was discussed, and for me that place is Zuizo in Lewisham. As my go-to and my holy grail for flat-ironing, trims and braids, I’ve had it all there and I will go back to it with confidence every time. Although it may not be the most instagram-friendly salon, what it lacks in a lick of paint it makes up with a super attentive, reliable and budget-friendly service. Moreover, the salon has won multiple awards from Black Beauty Magazine for its skills in hair colouring and has been placed in the top 10 Afro Caribbean hair salons in London by Elle Magazine. If you’re south of the river, it’s worth popping over!

Natural Gloe

Over in Ealing we have Natural Gloe, an elegant salon that offer Keratin, Shea Butter and Olaplex treatments as well as their cut and blowdries. Their head stylist appeared on BBC 2’s tv show Hair, and showed us the very best of her hair imaginative designs. Moreover, Natural Gloe confess that they love weddings, so if you have a big day coming up, or perhaps prom, or maybe just a Friday, be sure to head in their direction!

Crystal Hair and Beauty

Live in the Midlands? When I’m outside of the Big Smoke and need a last minute style Crystal Hair and Beauty over on Silver Street in Leicester city centre is my go-to. Not only do they offer a wide range of services but they sell all of our favourite curly hair products in their store next door, which makes it even easier to get those coloured twist extensions you’ve seen recently on the gram! Crystal’s prices are easy on the purse and they always offer a friendly service with a smile, guaranteed to leaving you a happy customer!

Lindsey Hughes the Curl Whisperer

Lindsey Hughes the Curl Whisperer is a trained DevaCurl specialist devoted to nurturing our curls to their very best! She sees every customer, and every curl, as unique and subsequently gives you a truly bespoke service catered to your type and texture. Moreover, she uses hair products designed for curly hair that are free from sulphates, silicones, paragons and other nasties, as well as biodegradable towels! Whilst this for me is a once-a-year treat, it is one that I look forward to every time as I know my locks will be getting some serious TLC.

3Thirty

Amongst the other edgy and mysterious storefronts in Shoreditch sits 3Thirty, an award winning Afro hair salon that has featured in Glamour Magazine, Time Out, Cosmopolitan and The Telegraph. With gilded leather seats and oversized mirrors, this salon has a little extra elegance that is definitely selfie ready. But what about their services? Well, their natural curly wash and diffuse treatment starts at £30 and with chatty customers and a nail and coffee bar within their studio you will be more than tempted to stick around!

Finding a salon that delivers the care that your curls require can be a challenge. It has taken me no less than 4 years to discover that the salons aforementioned are my favourites and, trust me, some experiences that I have had at other locations has left me with questionable results. Although the saying tells us that we have to kiss a lot of frogs before we find the one, my list has given you somewhere to start to that you can save your time (and hard earned cash) for investing in your tresses.
